The Area Reports
Word From The North
St. Peters Fly Shop, Ft. Collins - (970) 498-8968 (Dave Cook, Andy Griguhn, Brady Hanson, Grant Houx).
Flows on the Poudre are generally clear and holding at about 300 cfs, although afternoon thunderstorms and irrigation releases can color the flow and raise levels. PMDs, Red Quills, Caddis and Yellow Sallies are all active and taking fish, but dont overlook the hoppers ants and beetles.
Anglers Roost, Ft. Collins (970) 377-3785 (Gordon Waldmier, Mark Brumbraugh, and Jason Haddix)
Gordon reports the Delaneys are fishing extremely well - particularly early and late in the day. Various bugger patterns in black, olive, brown and cream all produce, as do crayfish, scud, midge and damsel patterns. Callibaetis hatches are popping fairly regularly as well.
Estes Angler - (970) 586-2110 (Grant Rollo, Devan Ence)
Grant says the streams are in excellent condition and dry fly action is hot throughout the park. Depending on the creek you fish, you can expect to find PMDs, Gray Drakes, Green Drakes, Yellow Sallies and a variety of Caddis hatching almost anywhere in the Park. Wulff patterns, Elk Hair Caddis, thorax, parachute and traditionally-hackled dry flies in hatch-matching colors will raise fish. As always, the Adams is a good all-round bet. Hoppers, ants and beetles can be extremely productive too- fish them close to the banks.
