Advantage

I hope everybody out there in angling land took advantage of November’s mild weather. I did some exploring of rivers on my own, and found a great area on Clear Creek at the bottom of Floyd Hill.  Some of the holes on this little creek hold some nice fish.

May I mention that during the winter, fish tend to pod up and be in the deeper holes.  I could actually see the fish in Clear Creek, and I am not a good spotter!  I do attribute this to a good pair of polarized sun glasses. Better put these on your Christmas list.

Another area that I “discovered” was the middle section of the Colorado River from the “pumphouse” area downstream. Although this is a well-used area, I had never been there. I went back three times with camera, friends, and even a hired guide to row me downstream. I wonder how many other areas I have been missing.

This brings me to another point.  When we fish our regular river, perhaps we should “go around the bend” and search out new water.   I think if we took the time to find new water, it would help us improve our stream reading ability and hone our observation of where and what to fish.

Book of the Month: Nymph Rigging by David Hughes, an Amato Publication.  If you don’t know how to set up a double-dry or wet fly rigging, you have to buy this book.

Tip of the month: “Purple is the first color trout see.” Do you have any purple flies in your box?
