Word From The North

St. Peter’s Fly Shop, Ft. Collins - (970) 498-8968 www.stpetes.com                                                             (Dave Cook, Andy Griguhn, Jin Choy, Grant Houx). Poudre River.

The Poudre continues to fish well in the lower reaches where you’ll still find a few BWOs hatching, but midges invariably dominate the action. When fishing tiny dries (18-to-24), tie another, larger fly on or pinch a bit of bio strike to your leader to act as a strike indicator or visual aid. If no fish are rising, nymph the deeper holding water.

Angler’s Roost, Ft. Collins  - (970) 377-3785 www.anglers-roost.com                                                   (Gordon Waldmier, RickTakahashi, Mark Brumbraugh, and Jason Haddix).

The Delaney’s are frozen, as is Lake John, but some fly fishermen continue to take big trout on those plains lakes. They rig midge larvae, scuds and damsel fly nymphs on fine tippet and fish them in much the same way ice fishermen jig lures. The North Platte is icing up in some areas, but big streamers fished deep will generate some good fish.

Estes Angler - (970) 586-2110 http://estesangler.com                                                                            (Grant Rollo, Devan Ence)

Estes Angler is closed for the season, but the Big T continues to produce along its most of its entire length.- particularly for anglers casting tiny BWOs and midges. You may find shelf ice starting to form in the darker, shadowed reaches of the canyon.
