The Usual

As the spring runoff approaches, we tend to fish the usual places. Antero, Spinney, and all the tailwaters are great places to fish; but if you want to try something new, check out the inexpensive magazine called “Fishing Close to Home” published by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. This great publication will give you hundreds of options for fishing close to home – a great deal considering the inflated gas prices

Before it gets too hot, some of my favorite spots this time of year are Aurora Reservoir and Quincy Reservoir which are close to Denver. Aurora Reservoir has a lot of perch in the lake, so tie up some yellow and orange clouser’s and go for it. Don’t forget your olive buggers. A floating device is always helpful to reach the areas where the fish are.

However, I prefer to fish for pike in the shallows of the Williams Fork Reservoir. Some say that the state record pike is in this impoundment. A large black fly such as a leech or bugger is all you need. Or, consider Stagecoach Reservoir near Steamboat as a great possibility for large pike.

Tarryall Reservoir and Tarryall Creek above the reservoir should be great places to fish with the family. The Corps of Engineers finally fixed the dam and the DOW stocked the reservoir with trout.  But, beware of the leftover pike.
