Oh thank heavens, March is here! It is technically still Winter here, but sometimes the powers that be will allow us some very good fishing this month.

The River will still remain mostly locked in Winters icy grip, but there will be some open spots appearing below Estes Park with increasing frequency as the month progresses. It'll be mostly midge fishing using Griffith's Gnats when the fish are rising, but the small black stone flys will start to appear in the mid-upper regions which means the nymph fishing can be fantastic where the water is open.

A small black nymph pattern such as the A. P. or a dark GRHE will produce some fish in the 12"-16" range. Of course you gotta fish low and slow as the water temps won't be much above 40 degrees, but an angler who can read the water and find open areas should do quite well.

We're about a month away from the early BWO's but they will come which means that some of the best fishing on the Big T. is just a moment away.

The best thing about March means that April isn't too far behind. And then, things get going for real! Go forth and brave the last vestiges of Winter, and look forward to the first harbingers of Spring. Don't you just love this time of year? I do!
