Word From The North

St. Peter’s Fly Shop, Ft. Collins - (970) 498-8968 (Dave Cook, Andy Griguhn, Brady Hanson, Grant Houx).

With the exception of isolated reports from the Reef, action remains extremely slow on local waters. Cabin fever victims are encouraged to head for the regional tail (and out-of-state) water rivers where they can at least get a line in the water and reasonably expect to hook a few fish on midge pupae, tiny nymphs and emergers, and  possibly luck into an early olive hatch.

Angler’s Roost, Ft. Collins - (970) 377-3785 (Gordon Waldmier, Rick Takahashi, Mark Brumbraugh, and Jason Haddix).

Local fisheries are still iced up for the most part, though some fairly good midging has been reported on the little tail race section of the Big T. The Poudre is still pretty much hopeless except for bits of open water near the old hatchery. The Reef remains slow, cold, murky and still iced up on the lower reaches. Best action now is on the Green, Blue, S. Platte and San Juan where it’s all about the midges - and maybe some early olives.

Estes Angler - (970) 586-2110 (Grant Rollo, Devan Ence)

The Estes Angler remains closed for the season but will reopen in April of 2008. They will respond to all requests left at the above number.
