     Much of the Poudre and Thompson Rivers still remain icebound but quite a few stretches have opened in recent weeks and, in those places, fishing has been rated fair-to-good by several local anglers. Midge pupae and tiny mayfly nymphs dominate the action, but you can whack a few trout on top too - again with midges, but in the adult stage. Use long fine leaders and be real sneaky.

     Local fisheries are still iced up for the most part, though some fairly good midging has been reported on the little tail race section of the Big T. The Poudre is still pretty much hopeless except for bits of open water near the old hatchery. The Reef remains slow, cold, murky and still iced up on the lower reaches. Best action now is on the Green, Blue, S. Platte and San Juan where it’s all about the midges - and maybe some early olives.
