OK, so it's November. Long gone are the hatches of summer. This is our last real chance to get some fishing in before the dreaded FREEZE that is surely coming.
The water will be low and very cold which means that midge fishing will be your best bet. This is the time to break out that new 2-3 wt. rod and a long, fine leader tied to #16-20 midge larvae pattern. Fish them like a standard nymph rig but be sure to step everything down for stealth.
I prefer using small yarn strike indicators because they land on the water gently and can be trimmed to size depending on how much weight you're using. Stick with the micro shot..... no need for the big stuff we use in the spring. If you see rising fish you'll be lucky. There just isn't much happening this month in terms of emerging insects but be sure to have some Griffith's Gnats in your flybox just in case.
Yeah, the hatches are gone, but then again so are the crowds. Now is your chance to have some solitude if you can stand cold feet, deal with usually windy conditions and can thread a 7x tippet through the eye of a #22 gnat. I know I'll be up there as much as possible!
