Word From The North

St. Peter’s Fly Shop, Ft. Collins - (970) 498-8968 (Dave Cook, Andy Griguhn, Brady Hanson, Grant Houx)

Flows on the Poudre are low and slow but fishing will still be excellent for stealthy anglers casting small hoppers, ants and beetles. There are also autumn olive hatches to fish to, and spawning browns will whack colorful streamers from now clear into November.

Angler’s Roost, Ft. Collins  - (970) 377-3785 (Gordon Waldmier, Mark Brumbraugh, Jason ?).

Action on the Delaney Buttes Lakes is geared toward the brown trout spawn. Big colorful streamers in red, brown and yellow can draw vicious strikes. There will be some surface action to October Caddis patterns, but streamers are working best. The standard Bite-me-buggers in pond olive and brown, vanilla buggers, Gordo's crayfish, lake leeches, scuds, damselfly and Callibaetis patterns will also take fish. Action can be good through the entire day this time of year.

Estes Angler - (970) 586-2110 (Grant Rollo, Devan Ence)

Action on Park streams remains fairly good. Terrestrial patterns, BWOs and small streamers will take some nice fish. “Hoppers, ants and beetles are always good choices this time of year,” Grant says, “But a Mickey Finn or other colorful streamer can induce territorial strikes from fall spawning browns throughout the month up until freeze up.”
