Weather

It seems that the weather has had a great influence on the fishing the past month. Mud slides on the Frying Pan and the Arkansas turned both of those rivers to Cappuccino. I am told that it will take the Arkansas a little more time to recover.

It’s late August and I know September is coming.  I can feel the cool mornings when I get the paper off the driveway. The hatches will slow, and it is time to pull out those hoppers and ants. And, don’t forget those beetles. Remember what Mike Lawson said: “If there was one dry fly I had to pick, it would be a beetle.”

Considering other parts of the country, Colorado is pretty lucky. Montana is closing down rivers due to the lack of water and the high temperatures. Yellowstone Park is limiting fishing to between 6:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.

Disturbing news is being reported by both Post and Rocky outdoor sports writers about the mishandling or killing of fish at Antero Reservoir. I have heard that there is a three-hour wait to put your boat in the water. CDOW has lowered the slot limit to two fish on Antero. You want to know a secret?  Go fish Spinney, everybody is fishing Antero.

A friend of mine tells me of a personal challenge he has with himself. Select five (5) flies and go fish five (5) rivers and try and catch one (1) fish out of each river. And, all in one day!  Now that’s a contest!
